COLLABORATIVE DIVORCE

Collaborative divorce is a relatively new type of divorce proceeding, in which each party retains his or her own attorney to help reach an amicable settlement. Although not suitable for all divorce cases, collaborative divorce is a viable option for couples who believe they’re capable of reaching a settlement on their own but still want to be afforded legal protections. In many respects, it’s a means for the couple to end the marriage while still maintaining a functional relationship.

Through four-way meetings, the parties and their attorneys strive to bring about a settlement in a manner that addresses the needs of both parties. Collaborative divorce attorneys use their skills in guiding negotiation and managing conflict to advocate not only for their respective clients, but also for what is fair and just overall. The goal in collaborative divorce is to achieve a settlement that best meets the specific needs of both parties and their children without the underlying threat of litigation.
